ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Larry Johnson scored 31 points as McNeese beat UAB 99-78 on Monday in a season opener.

Johnson added five rebounds for the Cowboys. Jaylon Dean-Vines scored 17 points while going 6 of 8 from the floor, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range, and 2 for 4 from the line. Elijah Moore shot 5 for 9 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points.

Elijah Duval finished with 15 points and five assists for the Blazers. UAB also got 12 points from Deuce Jones. Justyn Fernandez also had 11 points.

McNeese took the lead for good with 9:12 remaining in the first half. The score was 44-35 at halftime, with Johnson racking up 20 points. McNeese extended its lead to 87-62 during the second half, fueled by a 10-0 scoring run. Moore scored a team-high 12 points in the second half.
